Most Jacksonville pumpkin patches are open now and close on October 31. Church patches charge no entry fee and ask for a donation per pumpkin. Farms like Congaree and Penn, Amazing Grace, and Sykes charge admission and add corn mazes, animals, and rides. The list below covers twenty locations by area, with hours and phone numbers.

Florida grows almost no pumpkins, so every patch in this city is a delivery we have agreed to call a harvest.

That takes nothing away from it. The hay is real hay. The kids do not care where the truck came from.

Passes are not sold in advance, because the weather decides whether the grounds open at all. Leashed dogs are welcome. There is a bar.

It opened September 24, which in Florida is still summer.

Pumpkin Patches Inside Bigger Events

Murray Hill-O-Ween runs Saturday, October 24 from 5:00 to 9:00 PM. Local vendors, food trucks, a kids zone with bounce houses, and a pumpkin patch, all in a neighborhood you can walk. It is right by the Murray Hill Theatre.

The Downtown Jacksonville Pumpkin Festival lands on the same Saturday. Two good pumpkin events on one evening is a scheduling problem, and the answer is usually whichever one you can park closer to.

What It Costs

  • Church patches: free entry. Pumpkins run from a few dollars for small ones to twenty and up for the large carvers.
  • Congaree and Penn: farm pass per person age two and up, sold on arrival. Pumpkins are $12 flat.
  • Sykes Family Farms: $16.99 per person age three and up, pumpkins separate.
  • Amazing Grace: admission for ages three and up, with the crop maze included.
  • Extras: hayrides and animal feed are frequently their own charge.

A family of four can do a church patch for under forty dollars including pumpkins. A farm with rides and lunch runs closer to a hundred and fifty.

The Best Time of Day to Go

October highs in Jacksonville sit in the low 80s, and the average high does not drop below 80 until November. The hay is decorative. The sweating is not.

Weekday afternoons are close to empty at the church patches. Southside opens at noon on weekdays and Isle of Faith at 1:00 PM, and either one at 2:00 PM on a Tuesday is a different experience than the same place on Saturday.

If you only have weekends, go at open or after 5:00 PM. Skip the middle of Saturday entirely. That is when the bounce houses have a line and the good pumpkins are already in somebody's cart.

What to Wear and Bring

  • Closed shoes. Church lots are gravel and farm patches are dirt. Sandals last about ten minutes.
  • Sunscreen. There is almost no shade at any of these, and October sun here still burns.
  • A wagon, if you own one. Farms rarely have carts and you will be carrying everything.
  • Cash in small bills. Donation boxes and hayride tickets rarely take cards.
  • Bug spray for evening visits. Mosquitoes do not observe the fall season either.

Dress the kids for photos second and heat first. A wool sweater in a pumpkin photo looks great for the four minutes before anyone has to sit in a car seat.

Quick Win

Call ahead on a weekday. Every church patch on this list is volunteer staffed, which means posted hours are a plan rather than a promise. A ninety second phone call saves a twenty five minute drive to a closed gate.

And buy the pumpkin on the way out, not the way in. Carrying a twenty pound gourd through a nine acre crop maze is a decision you only make once.

We put out a new Jacksonville guide most weeks. October fills up fast around here.
