Labor Day Weekend 2026 in Jacksonville

Labor Day weekend 2026 runs Friday, September 4 through Monday, September 7. It opens with 904 Day on Friday and closes with the federal holiday on Monday. There's no marquee festival inside Jacksonville this year, which leaves the weekend to the beaches, the parks, and the water.

That sounds like a downgrade. It isn't. We have 22 miles of beach and the largest urban park system in the country, and for one weekend nobody has scheduled anything on top of them.

Four days, one of them structured. Plan accordingly.

Friday Belongs to 904 Day

September 4 is the area code holiday, and it's the only day of the weekend with a real schedule attached. The confirmed lineup runs from a 7:00 AM breakfast downtown through a 6:00 PM block party at James Weldon Johnson Park, with a garden event in Riverside and food trucks in Green Cove Springs in between.

No, the Super Girl Festival Is Not This Weekend

Worth heading this one off, because a few event listings have it filed wrong.

The Super Girl Surf Festival does happen over Labor Day weekend in 2026. In Virginia Beach. The Jacksonville Beach edition, now in its sixth year, runs November 7 and 8. Different city, different month.

So if you saw Super Girl attached to a September date and started planning around it, adjust. The pier will be a normal pier that weekend.

The Beach Plan

Twenty-two miles of it, and early September is the last stretch of real summer water before the fall crowd thins things out.

The practical version:

• Jacksonville Beach for the pier, the boardwalk, and somewhere to eat within walking distance of your towel.
• Neptune and Atlantic Beach for a quieter version of the same sand.
• Hanna Park if you want shade, trails, and a lake as backup options attached to the ocean.
• Little Talbot Island for the version with almost nobody on it.

Go early. Beach parking on a holiday weekend is a competitive sport with no referee.

The Parks Plan

Jacksonville runs the largest urban park system in the nation, more than 80,000 acres, including two national park sites and seven state parks. Most of it sits empty on any given Saturday.

If the beach forecast turns, that's your fallback and it's a better one than most cities have. Timucuan Preserve, Fort Caroline, the Ribault Club, Big Talbot. All of them are a short drive and none of them require a plan.

The Water Plan

Jacksonville has 1,100 miles of navigable water and more shoreline than any other city in the country. Kayak, paddleboard, boat, or just find somewhere to look at it.

What's Open on Labor Day Monday

Standard federal holiday rules apply. Government offices, banks, and the courts are closed. No mail delivery. Most restaurants, bars, grocery stores, and retail are open, often on a Sunday schedule.

Check JTA for holiday bus and ferry schedules before you count on either. Holiday service is usually reduced.

The Honest Recommendation

Do 904 Day properly on Friday. Spend Saturday somewhere with sand or trees. Keep Sunday empty on purpose. Grill something on Monday and go to bed early, because school and football both arrive the following week and this is the last quiet one for a while.
