Who Owns the Jacksonville Jaguars?

Shad Khan owns the Jacksonville Jaguars. He agreed to buy the team from founding owner Wayne Weaver in November 2011 for $770 million, and the sale was completed in early 2012. Forbes valued the franchise at $5.6 billion in 2025. The team is not relocating, has never won a Super Bowl, and got its name from a fan contest.

Every one of those facts sounds slightly made up. All of them are real. Khan paid $770 million for a team Forbes had just ranked dead last in the league in value, and it's now worth more than seven times that. We're not going to pretend anyone here saw that coming.

Who Is Shad Khan?

Shahid Khan came to the United States from Pakistan at 16 with about $500, washed dishes for $1.20 an hour, and eventually bought Flex-N-Gate, the auto parts company where he'd worked as an engineer. He built it into one of the largest private automotive suppliers in the world. When the Jaguars sale closed, he became the first ethnic minority owner in NFL history.

The Khan family portfolio didn't stop there. Shad bought Fulham FC, a London soccer club, in 2013. His son Tony Khan founded AEW, the wrestling company, and works in the Jaguars front office. So the same family runs an NFL team, a Premier League club, and a wrestling promotion. Jacksonville got the football one.

How Much Are the Jaguars Worth?

Forbes valued the Jaguars at $5.6 billion in its 2025 rankings, up 22 percent in a single year. That jump wasn't random. Franchise values climb when a stadium future gets locked in, and the Jaguars locked theirs in hard.

Which also answers the question of how much it costs to buy the Jaguars: you can't. The team isn't for sale. But if it ever were, the price would start with a five and a comma, and the $770 million Khan paid would look like a garage sale receipt.

Are the Jaguars Relocating?

No. This one is settled, contractually and unanimously.

In 2024, the team and the city agreed to a $1.4 billion renovation of EverBank Stadium, splitting the main cost at $625 million each. The deal came with a 30-year lease and a binding non-relocation agreement, and NFL owners approved it 32 to 0. After decades of London rumors following this franchise around like a seagull at the pier, the relocation conversation is over.

• 2027: home games move to Camping World Stadium in Orlando for one season.
• 2028: the rebuilt Stadium of the Future opens, with shade over every seat.

One London home game a year continues under the new lease. That's not a relocation warning sign anymore. It's a marketing trip.

How Did the Jaguars Get Their Name?

A fan contest. In 1991, two years before Jacksonville even had a team, the Touchdown Jacksonville bid group held a public vote to name the franchise it hoped to land. Finalists included the Sharks, the Stingrays, and the Panthers. Jaguars won, announced on December 6, 1991.

The local hook was real: the Jacksonville Zoo housed the oldest living jaguar in North America at the time. So the city named its imaginary football team after an actual elderly cat, then spent two more years convincing the NFL the team should exist. It worked. The league awarded Jacksonville the 30th franchise in November 1993, and the Jaguars kicked off in 1995.

How Many Super Bowls Have the Jaguars Won?

Zero. The Jaguars have never won a Super Bowl and have never played in one.

The full honest ledger: three trips to the AFC Championship Game, after the 1996, 1999, and 2017 seasons, each one a win away from the big game. The 2025 team went 13 and 4, won the AFC South, and hosted a playoff game before falling to the Bills by a field goal. The trophy case has room. The trophy case has always had room.
